Guidelines for Keeping Sick Children Home from School
A sick child cannot learn effectively and is unable to participate in activities in a meaningful way. Keeping a sick child home prevents the spread of illness in the school community and allows the child the opportunity to rest and recover.
- Fever: If your child has a temperature of 100° or more, he/she should stay home until they are fever free (without fever reducing medication) for 24 hours.
- Diarrhea or Vomiting: If your child has diarrhea or vomiting, he/she should stay at home until they are symptom free for 24 hours.
- Bacterial infections (such as Pink Eye or Strep Throat): Your child can return to school 24 hours after the first dose of prescription medication.
- Covid-19: If your child tests positive for Covid-19, he/she must quarantine for 5 days from the onset of symptoms or positive test results. If he/she is feeling well enough to return to school at the end of quarantine, he/she must wear a mask at school for an additional 5 days. Please see additional information here: COVID-19 PROTOCOLS
