Dear Talbot Families,
I would like to begin by saying how excited I am to have been selected as the next principal of the Talbot Community School. I have been working in public schools for 28 years, nine of which have been with the Portland Public Schools. Most recently, I served as the district’s Executive Director of Operations. Before serving in that role, I was the principal of Longfellow Elementary. I taught elementary and middle school in Massachusetts and Maine for 10 years. Below, please find some important dates for your calendars and important school information.
The first day of school this year for students is:
Wednesday, September 6th for 1st through 5th grades
Thursday, September 7th for PreK and Kindergarten

School Hours:
7:25 – 7:40 Breakfast
7:40 – Start of School
2:10 – Dismissal on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday
Every Wednesday is Early Release for all students at 1:10
If your child is sick or is going to be absent or late to school, please let us know by calling (207) 874-8210 or emailing Andrea Manuel at manuea@portlandschools.org. You may also record your child’s absence online through our School Messenger app at https://go.schoolmessenger.com. If your child arrives at school later than 7:50 a.m., please have them check in with the front office before heading to class.
All students at Talbot receive free breakfast and lunch at school. Students may also bring their own snacks and lunches to school, if preferred. For the monthly Breakfast and Lunch menus, please click here.
For students who are eligible for bussing, you will receive the bussing information directly from our Transportation Department. If you have any questions, you may reach them at (207) 874-8240.
